Reflections on Psalm 46: God’s Self-exaltation

Ps 46 is a Song of Zion hymn. Through this psalm, God taught me that “[He] will exalt Himself” (46:10b). God rebuked my unintended understanding that He needed me to be exalted in the earth. Initially, I was struck by the popular words that preceded this declaration. It said, “Cease striving.” (46:10a, NASB). I’ve internalized this verse and missed the verses that followed. Through the devotional, God expanded my mind as to why I can cease striving. I can cease striving because God is exalting Himself. He even said it twice! God used this insight to inject unparalleled peace and rest in my Tyndale life. Previously, I was taking myself too seriously in my work in God’s kingdom. Unintentionally, it was as though God would not be able to complete His plans without me.

Thankfully, I received a deeper understanding of God’s outworking in human history – He is truly active and exalting Himself.
